Biography
Peter Ernest Wong is a British educated and trained Chartered Accountant with more than 30 years of auditing experience, with the last 12 years leading and managing the internal audit function for leading financial institutions. In addition to coverage of Hong Kong, China and the Asia Pacific region, he has lived and worked for a number of years in London, Tokyo and New York. After 6 years of auditing experience with KPMG Peat Marwick in London, Mr. Wong further expanded his internal audit experience with major investment banks (Salomon Brothers, Merrill Lynch, Fortis and Mizuho Securities) as well as insurance firms (Pacific Century Insurance, Fortis and C.V.Starr). He is especially experienced in reviewing banking and insurance products and business processes, and has provided numerous value-added advice and recommendations to senior management on the improvement of internal controls, information technology, corporate governance, operations, risk management, financial and compliance controls. Mr. Wong possesses a strong skill-set for audit review and business advisory work, and has also performed due diligence work for mergers and acquisition projects, fraud investigations, and implemented advanced accounting systems.
Mr. Wong is a Committee Member of the Oxford and Cambridge Society of Hong Kong, and was President of the Society from 2003 to 2004.
Education
Peter Ernest Wong graduated from Cambridge University with MA and BA degrees in Computer Science and Engineering. He is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, a fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and a fellow of Life Management Institute.
